The 130th anniversary of the birth of Józef Czapski
The year 2026 marks the 130th anniversary of the birth of Józef Czapski (born April 3, 1896, in Prague, died January 12, 1993, in Maisons-Laffitte), an outstanding Polish painter, essayist, and witness to the 20th century. W 2026 roku przypada 130. rocznica urodzin Józefa Czapskiego (urodził się 3 kwietnia 1896 roku w Pradze, zmarł 12 stycznia 1993 roku w Maisons-Laffitte), wybitnego polskiego malarza, eseisty i świadka XX wieku. “Podobne i niepodobne is a collection of literary and visual forms. They are connected by the lyrical subject and the fact that they are either similar or dissimilar to each other. I do not explain what these forms are in terms of literary genre or visual arts, because what I want to say through them is more important – in close connection with how to say it. I hope that the note of self-irony and humour present in some of them does not detract from what is serious in this book. After all, humour is also a serious and necessary thing in life.”

„Podobne i niepodobne to zbiór form o charakterze literacko-wizualnym. Łączy je podmiot liryczny i właśnie to, że są podobne albo niepodobne do siebie. Nie tłumaczę, czym te formy są w sensie gatunku literackiego lub dziedziny sztuk wizualnych, bo ważniejsze jest to, co chcę przez nie powiedzieć – w ścisłym związku z tym, jak to powiedzieć. Mam nadzieję, że obecna w niektórych z nich nuta autoironii i humoru nie umniejsza tego, co w tej książce poważne. W końcu humor to też rzecz poważna i potrzebna w życiu”.
