Janusz Marciniak urodził się w Poznaniu (1954). Studiował w poznańskiej Państwowej Wyższej Szkole Sztuk Plastycznych (PWSSP), obecnie Uniwersytet Artystyczny im. Magdaleny Abakanowicz (UAP). W 1982 roku otrzymał dyplom z wyróżnieniem w Pracowni Malarstwa prof. Jacka Waltosia i Pracowni Rysunku prof. Józefa Fliegera. Od 1983 roku pracuje w macierzystej uczelni. Był asystentem w Pracowni Rysunku prof. Andrzeja Okińczyca, a następnie asystentem i adiunktem w Pracowni Malarstwa prof. Józefa Walczaka. Od 2006 roku prowadzi XII Pracownię Malarstwa. W 2011 roku otrzymał tytuł profesora sztuk plastycznych. Promotor wielu prac licencjackich, magisterskich i doktorskich. Autor recenzji w postępowaniach o awans naukowy. Inicjator nadania tytułu doktora honoris causa Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Poznaniu Krzysztofowi Wodiczce i jego promotor (2007). Inicjator i redaktor cyklu publikacji Rozmowy w pracowni (Akademizm, Etyka, Forma, Granice malarstwa), który jest zapisem rozmów pedagogów z Wydziału Malarstwa i Rysunku (2005–2007). Inicjator i redaktor serii Monografie subiektywne (2015). Pełnił różne funkcje, m.in. kierownika Katedry Malarstwa (2006–2009 i 2016–2020). Organizował Szkołę Letnią PWSSP (1991). Jest członkiem Senatu UAP (od 2016). 

W drugiej połowie lat 90. współpracował z prof. Erichem Dauzenrothem (Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen) i Niemieckim Towarzystwem Korczakowskim (Deutsche Korczak Gesellschaft). W latach 2006–2009 był dyrektorem Fundacji Signum. W ramach współpracy tej fundacji z poznańską ASP organizował Spotkania Sztuki i Działań Społecznych i Warsztaty Radości Życia dla dzieci w Rybojadach i Trzcielu (2007–2017). Pomysłodawca i juror ogólnopolskiego konkursu Nowy Obraz / Nowe Spojrzenie. 

Inicjator i kurator wielu wystaw, m.in.: Dzienniki Józefa Czapskiego (Muzeum Narodowe w Poznaniu, 1991), Zofia Kulik: broń symboliczna III (Galeria u Jezuitów, 1994), Krzysztof Wodiczko: pojazdy, instrumenty (Fundacja Signum, 2007), Projekcja Poznańska K. Wodiczki (Fundacja Signum, 2008), Gabrielle – wideo K. Wodiczki (Galeria Rotunda, UAP, 2022), Zdziwienie – wystawa on-line artystek, artystów i naukowców z UAP, Uniwersytetu Alabamy i Uniwersytetu Harvarda (2021). Założyciel i kurator Galerii Wystaw Autorskich przy Muzeum Narodowym w Poznaniu (1991). Współorganizator Galerii u Jezuitów (1992). Współtwórca Kolekcji im. Janiny i Józefa Haubenstocków w Muzeum Narodowym w Krakowie (1995–2002). Sekretarz Zarządu Okręgu Związku Polskich Artystów Plastyków (ZPAP) w Poznaniu (1996–1997). Uczestnik spotkań interdyscyplinarnych organizowanych przez Janusza Boguckiego w Warszawie i Laskach w pierwszej połowie lat 90. Autor 54 działań i wystaw indywidualnych oraz uczestnik 66 wystaw zbiorowych w Polsce i za granicą.

Bio Note

Janusz Marciniak was born in Poznań (1954). He studied at the State Higher School of Fine Arts; now Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts (UAP) in Poznań. In 1982 he graduated cum laude from the Prof. Jacek Waltoś Painting Studio and Prof. Józef Flieger Drawing Studio. He has worked in his Alma Mater since 1983, first as an assistant at Associate Prof. Andrzej Okińczyc Drawing Studio, then as an assistant and adjunct in the Prof. Józef Walczak Painting Studio. Since 2006 he has run Painting Studio 12. In 2011 he was granted the title of Professor of visual arts. Promoter of many bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral theses. Author of reviews in proceedings for academic promotion. Initiator of awarding the title of doctor honoris causa of the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań to Krzysztof Wodiczko and his promoter (2007). 

Initiator and editor of the cycle of publications Conversations in the Studio (Academicism, Ethics, Form, Borders of Painting), which is a record of conversations of teachers from the Faculty of Painting and Drawing (2005–2007). Initiator and editor of the cycle of Subjective Monographs (2015). He performed various functions, including Head of the Department of Painting (2006–2009 and 2016–2020). He organized the Summer School of PWSSP (1991). He is a member of the UAP Senate (since 2016).

In the second half of the 1990s he collaborated with the German Korczak Society (Deutsche Korczak Gesellschaft) and Prof. Erich Dauzenroth (Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen). From 2006 to 2009 he was a director of the Signum Foundation. As part of the cooperation of this foundation with the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań, he organized the Encounters of Art and Social Activities, and the Joy of Life Workshops for children in Rybojady and Trzciel (2007–2017). Originator and juror of the nationwide competition New Painting / New Look.

An initiator and curator of exhibitions, e.g. Józef Czapski’s Diaries (National Museum in Poznań, 1991), Zofia Kulik: Symbolic Weapon III (Jesuits’ Gallery, 1994), Krzysztof Wodiczko: Vehicles, Instruments (Signum Foundation, 2007), Wodiczko’s Poznań Projection (Signum Foundation, 2008), Gabrielle – video by K. Wodiczko (Rotunda Gallery, UAP, 2022), Astonishment – an online exhibition of artists and scholars from UAP, the University of Alabama and Harvard University (2021). An initiator and curator of the Gallery of Authors’ Exhibitions at the National Museum in Poznań (1991). A co-organizer of the Jesuits’ Gallery (1992). A co-creator of the Janina and Józef Haubenstock Collection in the National Museum in Kraków (1995–2002). A secretary of the Board of the Poznań District of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers (1996–1997). Participant of interdisciplinary meetings organized by Janusz Bogucki in Warszawa and Laski in the first half of the 90s. Author of 54 activities and indyvidual exhibitions, and participant in 66 group exhibitions in Poland and abroad.
