Somewhere in the Universe

Comment by J.S.: “The performance began during dinner. Ada and Janusz went out for a while. When they returned, each had a rose in their buttonholes, which discreetly provoked the imagination. This was also the first sign that the performance had already started. It was a reminder that not only in art but also in life, all objects and gestures have a symbolic meaning. Ada and Janusz invited us onto the steps of the palace. They themselves stood before the audience against the background of the draperies. The light went out and the darkness of an autumnal night enveloped the place of action.

Ada: Ladies and Gentlemen! We are proud to present a performance enitled Somewhere in the Universe.

Janusz: Those of you who do not have any imagination, will not understand anything. Those who have imagination, do not need a commentary.

After these words, Janusz lit a cigarette and drew in the smoke heavily, so that the glow was clearly visible in the dark, and touched the drapery with the cigarette. The small light, to the surprise of the spectators, broke away from the cigarette and began circling on the surface of drapery. In fact, it was a red laser light which Ada projected from behind the drapery. At the same time we heard a song by Meredith Monk. Ada drew abstract forms with a laser light in harmony with the music, emotions, time and place, created beautiful visual phenomena. It was so unusual, from beginning to end, integrated into life and simultaneously out of it. The various emotions and thoughts met briefly and intertwined somewhere in the Universe ... I took this as a poetic celebration of the transience of our existence and our meetings – with a very subtly hinted parody of itself and of the conventions of entertainment.”

Gdzieś w kosmosie

Gdzieś w kosmosie, 2006, performance we współpracy z Adą Ronżewską, dwie róże, kilka słów, papieros, biała draperia (840 × 725 cm), rysunek światłem lasera inspirowany fragmentem The Dolmen Music Meredith Monk. Miejsce: Rybojady. Czas trwania: 12 min.

Komentarz J.S.: „Performance rozpoczął się podczas kolacji. Ada i Janusz wyszli na chwilę. Kiedy wrócili, każde z nich miało różę w butonierce. Róże dyskretnie prowokowały wyobraźnię. Były również pierwszym znakiem, że performance już trwa, że nie tylko w sztuce, ale także w życiu przedmioty i gesty mają sens symboliczny. Ada i Janusz zaprosili nas na schody pałacu. Sami zaś stanęli przed nimi, na tle draperii. Zgasło światło. Ciemności jesiennej nocy spowiły miejsce akcji.

Ada: Mamy zaszczyt przedstawić państwu performance pod tytułem Gdzieś w kosmosie.

Janusz: Kto nie ma wyobraźni, ten nic nie zrozumie. Kto ma wyobraźnię, nie potrzebuje komentarza.

Po tych słowach Janusz zapalił papierosa. Podszedł do draperii. Mocno zaciągnął się dymem, aby światełko żaru było dobrze widoczne w ciemnościach, i dotknął papierosem draperii. Światełko, ku zaskoczeniu widzów, oderwało się od papierosa i zaczęło krążyć po draperii. W rzeczywistości było już światełkiem czerwonego lasera, którym z drugiej strony draperii kierowała Ada. Jednocześnie usłyszeliśmy śpiew Meredith Monk. Ada, rysując abstrakcyjne formy światłem lasera, w ścisłym związku z muzyką, emocjami, czasem i miejscem, wykreowała piękne zjawisko wizualne. Od początku do końca wtopione w życie i jednocześnie wyrwane z niego, a więc niezwykłe. Gdzieś w kosmosie... spotkały się i na chwilę splotły ze sobą różne wzruszenia i myśli. Ja odebrałem to działanie jako poetycką celebrację ulotności istnienia i naszych spotkań. Dostrzegłem w nim również nutę autoparodii i zabawę konwencjami”.
